The envelopes are a bright and sunny yellow colour.

Artwork

What age do the children need to be to participate in an art project?

Children and adults of all ages enjoy participating in the Little Paintbox art projects. When very young children are involved, then it may be worth considering projects based on taking prints of the children’s hands or feet, for example, or using stencils or potato prints. Free painting can also produce interesting shapes and colours.

Return to top of page

What type of materials work well?

To get the best results you can use crayons, felt tips, pastels, poster paints, acrylics, wax crayons or watercolours as well as collages with coloured paper/tissue paper/felt, or hand/foot prints, sponge/potato prints and rubber stamps. We don’t recommend using pencil, and please DO NOT use glitter.

Return to top of page

What type of paper should we use for the artwork?

It is possible to use any type of paper for the artwork, although the paper needs to be of a good quality thickness if using poster paints, to avoid warping of the paper. Plain white paper works very well, but coloured paper can be used if preferred. An example would be a white snowmen stuck on red/black card. If using coloured paper, please ensure there is plenty of background for bleed. For further information please see creating your artwork.

Return to top of page

What type of themes and topics work well for the artwork?

The project themes can be based around any topic of your choosing. Topics that generally work well include: the child and their home life (including self-portraits); the home; family and pets. Seasonal and festive topics also work well, for example, the different seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) or festivities (Easter, Halloween, Christmas, New Year).

Return to top of page

Will you be able to return the original artwork once you have created a proof card?

We do not normally return the artwork as a matter of course. However, if your artwork is related to the National Curriculum or you wish it to be returned, then please request this when you forward the artwork to us.

Return to top of page

Images

Do we need permission to offer children’s images on the cards?

To offer the cards with a photograph then you need to obtain permission from the parents. We find that most parents prefer to include images of the child so they are generally very willing to provide permission. Click here to download a letter you can send to parents to announce your project and provide them with the ability to opt out of the photo option. Little Paintbox assume that when we receive the children’s images that permission has been provided – we do not require the signed permissions.

Return to top of page

What type of photograph do you need?

We require a digital photograph of the child. The images can be provided to us by email or uploaded to our secure dropbox, and they can be saved in any format – the most popular formats being: .jpg, .gif, .tif, .eps. We request that you also save the images using the child’s code and name i.e. A01_LucyHazell_jpg.

Return to top of page

Do we have to include photographs on the cards?

No, this is optional. Regrettably, we are unable to offer a reduction in price to exclude the child images from the cards.

Return to top of page

Ordering

Can we see the cards before we order?

Yes. Generic sample cards can be supplied to the school/nursery prior to running a project in order to show to the parents, so they can see the quality of the cards. An individual proof card will be created and forwarded to you for each child that participates in the project.

Return to top of page

Can the parents change the child image once they have received the proof?

Yes, your school or nursery can offer this service at your own discretion. We will require you to send us a second photograph (which can be sent by email), however, a second proof card will not be provided.

Return to top of page

If we register a project are we obligated to buy cards?

No. You register an art project with Little Paintbox and we then send you a proof card for each of the children that participate in the project. The proof card will include information on how to order, either online or completing an order envelope if you wish to collect the orders to simply return to us with  payments.

Return to top of page

How do parents order the cards?

The proof card we send for each child will contain order information. The parents can pay online via the website or may call us to pay by debit card. If you wish to collect the orders the parents can complete the order form and insert their payment into the envelope and simply return it to your school / nursery. The school / nursery then sends all the orders and payments to us.

Return to top of page

Administration

Is there any cost to my organisation to run a project?

There is no cost to the school / nursery to run an art project. The only cost involved is the postage of the artwork and orders to us, and then any other miscellaneous telephone calls in respect to any queries you may have.

Return to top of page

What postage method do you suggest we use to send the artwork / images, and then the orders / payment?

Regrettably, we are unable to accept liability for any items that go missing in the post. Therefore, we recommend the artwork and orders are sent to us by special or recorded delivery.

Return to top of page

Is there a postage cost involved to send the proof cards and completed cards to us?

No. Postage / delivery costs of the proof and finished cards sent from Little Paintbox to your school or nursery are covered within the cost of the cards. There is a delivery charge if the parents request the cards to their home address.

Return to top of page

Is there a lot of administration for our organisation?

There is a small amount of administration involved in running a project. You need to register your school and project with us, and complete a class register for each class of children that will participate in the project. It will also include running the project in class time, taking images of the children (if these are to be included) then returning the artwork, images, and class register to us. We will send you a proof card for each child, which is to be forwarded onto the parents. You will then forward the orders and payments to us if you offer this option instead of online ordering.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The children’s names are to be included on the class register, the artwork, and the child’s images (if cards with images are required). It is very important to ensure the child’s name is spelt correctly on the class register, as this will be used for the printing of the child’s name on the reverse of the card. If a proof is returned with an incorrect spelling we will correct this free of charge, but we do not provide a second proof.

Return to top of page

We are interested to run a project – what should we do next?

Please register that you are interested in running a project. It is possible to register online, or alternatively email or call us. Once we have received your registration, we will send out a confirmation email confirming your project dates along with project notes explaining how to run a project.

Return to top of page

When is the commission paid to our organisation?

We will process your order and return a cheque to the school / nursery once the payments have cleared and the orders are processed. On average this takes up to 20 days.

Return to top of page

Timescales

How long does it take to run a project?

From the date you run a project we would suggest allowing 25 working days for project completion. When running projects to a specific deadline such as Christmas, we recommend you start the project as early as possible in the September term, as parents often wish to receive their cards early for posting.
